Strike and Cast Party!

Howdy everyone! Welcome to this fall’s last Real Talk with me. After three nights of lights, music, scrutiny, cheering fans, and playing Red Card, Allen Theater felt unusually silent on Sunday morning. Why? Well, it was time to strike the set of Scrutiny. During strike, all elements of the play—scenery, props, costumes—are removed from the theater. Strike, for me, is a bittersweet moment; it brings the entire experience full circle. It helps me fully appreciate all of the work that was put into this original play. The judges’ table, the platforms, the booth, and the Scrutiny sign were ideas born in our theater that were manifested into the show. Dismantling the set can be sad, yet it’s an exciting opportunity to make way for future performances. After all, all good things must come to an end.

Afterwards, we headed over to Ali’s house for our cast party. It was great to get together one last time to celebrate and reflect. There’s something special that happens when you work with people toward a common goal for months at a time—you become a family. And that’s the kind of vibe that I will miss the most from this show.

However, we took the opportunity to read Scrutiny fan-fics written by Gwynne. We DID create the play, after all. Just because the play is over doesn’t mean we can’t continue creating new material!

Until next time,
Jeff
